The History of The Karuppannaswami Kovil - known as Odai Karuppu located at Chockanathapuram , Bibikulam Area - Madurai near Income Tax Office Area.
This Temple is over 400 years old, but now in a completely renovated new look with all
Gods.
These lands once belonging to Chelliah Pillai, This place was used to dry paddy grains
and dryig yard. Nearby is a waterway, known as " odai" in Tamil.
The night security at that used to hear "sounds of salangai" due to the movement of Karuppauswami - the Security God. they then started worship of Karuppannaswami here by installing a Karuppuswami sila made of mud/suthai. they used to make new silaroopam every
year and doing poojah , particularly during Harvest Season.
Due to lapse of time - once full of paddy fields with Odai - This area is now full of residences
and buildings , but leaving the temple area vacant.
The whole area is now known as Chelliah Colony - Chokanathapuram.
In the initial stages due to starting troubles- the trustees consulted pundits for prasannam and did
every thing as advised by Prasanna Dikshiths.
29/8/1991 the Kumbabishekam was done with great grand gala.

The Temple Kumbabishekam was done in 2012 again with the help of Devotees .
Now the Temple has following Sannathis and Festivals
Lord Ganesh, Lord Murugan, Lord Shivan, Lord Anjaneyan, Lord Aiyappan, Navagraham
Sannathis,Lord Dakshinamurthy beside Odai Karuppanaswami in a separate sannathi.
The Festivals Here:
Nithya Poojahs, Sankadahara Chathurthy, Krithikai, Pradosham, Valarpirai Ashtami Poojahs, Saturday Vishnu Sahasranaama Parayanam, Poornami Abishekam, Special Annathaanams, All Graha Peyarchi Poojahs, Aiyappa Laksharchanais with Annathanam every year 25th December and Balaji Laksharchanai with Annathanam on one of the Puratasi Saturday.
Tamil New Year Panchangam Prasannam, Graha Peyarchi Homams,
For Karuppanna Swami - Special Poojahs, Petti Vizhaa (last Friday of Paguni every year) etc. are being regularly performed.
Vinayaka Veedhi Ula on Vinayagar Chaturthi.
The Temple is managed by Odai Karuppanna swami Charitable Trust.
The Trust has been doing from Inception Eye Camps jointly with Aravind Eye Hospitals
Madurai , Educational Aid to Poor , Annathaanam on various days.
